How this page works
- One small question each. The road server is asked for the nearest road to a point, address lookups look up one address, email signs in to the mail server without sending, and card payments reads one price from Stripe. The backup line is the age of the newest copy.
- Checks are spaced out. Each answer is kept for 30 seconds to 30 minutes, so however often this page is opened, each part is asked at most once in that time. Address lookups are checked least often, since a lookup can cost money.
- The same server. This page runs on the server it checks. If it won't open at all, the server itself is down.
- Backups. A copy of everything is made every night and the last 14 are kept on the same server. More on backups.
- Notes. When something goes wrong, we post a note here that says what happened, and say when it's fixed.
- For your own monitor. The same checks, as JSON, are at /api/status.
